My comfort zone

The best thing about my latest trip? On my way back, I got a surprise upgrade to business class. Danke schön Lufthansa! If there ever comes a better moment for a “free” glass of wine and excellent service, it’s on the way back home from an almost perfect trip.

Oh, and how I love seeing those cities and rivers from above. The rivers along which I’ve walked and cities in which I’ve been totally lost. And airports, like Frankfurt Airport and Munich Airport, in which layovers go smoothly and you can get a Brezel or two. And Bilbao Airport, designed by Calatrava. And Helsinki, from/to which you finally can take a train.

On airports, once more

“In my view, we’re heading in the wrong direction,” Griffiths says. “With bigger and bigger airports we get bigger walking distances, less intimate experiences and greater difficulties in customers making connections.” He suggests that no performance statistic is more important to airports than ensuring passengers can “very conveniently and easily connect between flights.

Systems like pre-checking for flights, mobile-checking, kiosks, baggage drop systems, improved digital passport and border controls, advanced security systems and biometrics, when properly applied, Griffiths suggests, will let airports use space more efficiently.

“When you take all of those processes out of the airport environment you create space,”

My feelings exactly.

T1 Helsinki Airport

I have an advice to share. Although I’m not sure if sharing is a good idea now, because the less people know about it, the more fun it is. But, sharing is caring, so here you go:

When traveling from Helsinki Airport, you might like to try Terminal 1 (T1), even though your flight would leave from Terminal 2 (T2). Of course the best situation is when your flight leaves from T1. Nevertheless, the reason for the detour is simple: coffee and less crowded security check.

So, next time flying away, hop off from your bus or ask the taxi to drop you on T1,  take the stairs up and enjoy a smooth security check, after which turn right for the good care in the hands of Johan & Nyström. There you get some power for yourself and your devices as well.  It’s a true win situation, I’d say.

Have a safe trip!

Lento Helsinki-Vantaalta?
