Searching For The Happy Place

I’ve been browsing the pictures from Switzerland and can’t help noticing how happy everyone (including me) look there. It’s the most important thing in the mountain, the smile (according to our guide Thomas) and the call of the mountains answered – the feeling of waking up, walking out and seeing the mountains oh so near. So near one can simply walk to them and climb them up and from the top see more mountains and so on…

Kinda opposite to the reality in Finland right now. Last days of work (btw why it seems that I’m the only civil servant working these days?) after which the oh so too familiar unemployed New Year 2016. It’s now the third January in a row with the same facts (including location Finland) and I kinda feel like I should do something to break the curse and move out from Finland, this time for good. Since this is no country for young women, it seems.

Nevertheless if any of you happen to have a paid job to offer, preferably near sea / mountains / happy friendly people / good coffee, I’m all up for it. Contact details on the left. Until that I’ll just trust that when nothing is certain, everything is possible. And maybe rename this blog to ‘Bum Diaries”.

Kuvien perusteella Sveitsissä vietettiin hemmetin iloisia, onnellisia, hetkiä. Vähän erilaisia kuin näinä päivinä Suomessa. Viimeiset työpäivät tässä talossa (miksi muuten tunnun olevan ainoa virkanainen töissä Suomessa näinä päivinä?) jonka jälkeen odottaa oi niin ihana tuttu työtön uusi vuosi 2016.

Hieman kyllä pistää miettimään, kun tämä nyt on jo kolmas tammikuun alku työttömänä Suomessa peräjälkeen, että pitäisikö nyt kolmannella kerralla vihdoin uskoa ja muuttaa mitä pikimmiten pois maasta, tällä kertaa pysyvästi.. No country for young women this.

Työtarjouksia, kaiken varalta myös Suomesta mutta ensisijaisesti ulkomailta, otetaan siis vastaan. Houkuttelu on helppoa jos töitä saa tehdä mukavassa yhteisössä, jossa on myös vuoria / meri / hyvää vahvaa kahvia lähietäisyydellä. Yhteystiedot vasemmalta.

Shades of Winter Engelberg

And everyone said wohooo! Four days on the most intensive and fun camp Engelberg has ever seen (not-so-objective-opinion). So there we were, the girls, Shades of Winter coaches and Thomas (lucky one ;)).

Ski Lodge Engelberg hosted us amazingly- home away from home except serving better breakfast than the place most people call “home”.  Tack! Moreover, Engelbert-Titlis offered the great setting (not much but maybe the most snow in the Alps right now (& even some powder), GoPro the cameras for some legendary material (#goproshadesofwinterengelberg), RECCO® some extra safety and Peak Performance topped it all with (free and dry) champagne.

But again, the best were the people. The beautiful & talented pros aka Shades of Winter coaches, accompanied by local guide Thomas, & the amazing, brave funny & talented women whom I’ve never met before but who I now know share the same passion for skiing and living to the fullest (the famous reference group). This kind of companion is a luxury which I unfortunately haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy too much the last two years. But now I did & it was just awesome to shred with these sisters from another mothers.

It was more than nice to learn more about the safety in the mountains, level up my freeskiing technique & especially to have that  extra pressure put on you & the support & the smiles. Like Matilda told us, it’s all about finding your own challenge but also to have companion with whom to share the pure happiness mountains deliver.

I’m definitely in to more trips (Japan…) with these girls anytime.

It was nice. Very nice. Thank you Switzerland, Engelberg, Ski Lodge Engelberg, Sandra, Matilda, Thomas, Melissa and all the girls. Loved it!

Shades of Winter

To do: Work, eat, train, sleep, repeat. Occasionally almost every day visit post to receive something or send something. And most importantly, pray for snow. Because it’s climate change, the holiday season and Engelberg waiting. 
To do: Työskentele, nuku, syö ja treenaa. Toista yhä uudellen ja uudelleen. Käy välillä postissa hakemassa tai lähettämässä paketteja. Ja mikä tärkeintä: rukoile lisää lunta. Koska ilmastonmuutos, joulukuu ja Engelberg yhden yön takana.

While I was in Lapland

It’s kinda absurd feeling to be at one the most peaceful places on earth, while something so awful is happening, to something and someone you so much love and adore. If something, this weekend and especially Friday the 13th reminded me that hey, you only live once and while living you should live to the fullest. Love, laugh, dance, ski, travel. Do whatever makes you happy. Just do it, before it’s too late. Always go and always take the change. Take care.

Gotta go a long way, so let’s be brave.

Right now I’m at Rovaniemi airport, waiting for delayed flight and thinking how much better spend this time and money would be on dinner and wine with the dearest one. But next weekend baby, next weekend there will be wine and dance and love.

Olipa kerran Lappi ja viikonloppu, joka muistutti raskaasti että parasta on vain elää tämä yksi ainoa elämänsä parhaansa mukaan. Olla tuhlaamatta aikaansa tai energiaansa turhuuteen ja sen sijaan elää täysillä, rakastaa, hiihtää ja tehdä kaikkea sitä mikä tekee onnelliseksi. Lappi on hieno paikka ja siellä voi totisesti elää aika onnellisena. Harmi vain ettei juuri tämä ihminen tunnu saavan sieltä töitä millään…

Tällä hetkellä istun Rovaniemen lentokentällä. Lento on myöhässä ja opin juuri ettei Kuopion keskustasta lentokentälle, tai lentokentältä, kulje mikään muu liikennemuoto kuin aivan liian kallis taksi tai oma auto. Nämä jos mitkä ovat ns. ensimmäisen maailman ongelmia, joista tällä hetkellä tuntuu niin typerältä valittaa, mutta ne ovat myös juuri sellaista ajan ja rahan tuhlausta, mitä en haluaisi joutua kokemaan. Sen sijaan että istun nyt täällä kentällä ja maksan taksista 40€, istuisin mieluummin rakkaimpani ja 40€ viinipullon kanssa illallisella. Onneksi se kuitenkin toteutuu jo seuraavana viikonloppuna. Siihen asti, on vain oltava urhea.

Lapland | Lappland

Thoughts today, while cross-country skiing:

I. In Finland, cross-country skiing seems to be in again and even the teenagers ski! Not in my youth… Therefore, I am sure it would pay off if DMO’s and resorts in Lapland, and why not everywhere (feel free to steal my idea…), would develop and promote their cross-country skiing possibilities and services more actively* including restaurants and cafés, good views etc. along the tracks and trails. Today the wind shut down many of the lifts in Lapland, and therefore I bet the downhill possibilities weren’t as good as promoted nor brought the money hoped for.

II. Yesterday in Östersund, Sweden, the winners of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup were both from Lapland. Charlotte Kalla comes from Tärendö, in Swedish Lappland, and Finn Hågen Krogh comes from Alta, in Finnmark Norway. So I started to think how nice it would be if Lapland used these great athletes as brand ambassadors and promoters, in example. According to their performance yesterday, it would really pay of, in visibility and inspiration.

Sama suomeksi – ajatuksia hiihtolenkiltä hiihtolomaviikolla:

I. Maastohiihto on in ja jopa nykynuoriso hiihtää! Lapin kohteiden kannattaisi varmasti kehittää ja mainostaa enemmänkin maastohiihtokohteita ja erinomaisesti hoidettuja latuja (latukahviloitakin), varsinkin kun hissilaskettelumahdollisuudet ovat vähän väliä uhattuina huonon sään vuoksi. Paljonkohan myymättömissä hissilipuissa ja rinneravintoloiden annoksissa menetettiinkään esimerkiksi tänään, kun hissit olivat suljettuina kovan tuulen vuoksi?

II. Eilisen Östersundin maastohiihdon maailmancupin osakilpailuvoittajat olivat molemmat Lapista. Charlotte Kalla Tärendöstä, Ruotsin Lapista ja Finn Hågen Krogh Altasta, Norjan Finnmarkista. Lappilaisiin hiihtäjiin sijoittaminen, rajojen yli, olisi siis varmasti kannattavaa urheilumarkkinoinnin ja Lapin yhteismarkkinoinnin näkökulmasta. Hyviä esikuvia ja innoittajia.
